In an amazing new form of marketing, Blake Crouch, Jack Kilborn (aka J.A. Konrath), Jeff Strand and F. Paul Wilson, are expecting a flood of reviews on blogs, twitter and the like on October 18, to be followed by a similar tidal wave on October 19th — the day of the book’s launch. I can only image the massive push in rankings and sales this massive promotion may bring.
This all started with a request for reviewers. I answered the call not expecting to be picked, but was astonished I was. I was asked to read the full manuscript and leave a review on my blog as well as on Amazon by the 18th and 19th respectively.
On October 6th, a select few were given the privilege of reading the full manuscript. I was one of these individuals, and I can honestly say I was not disappointed with the novel. But what is even more intriguing is the unusual marketing ploy they have instigated.
We all know good reviews sell books. What these novelists have concocted is a massive surge of reviews and blog posts within two days. On October 18th, expect the first surge of posted reviews. And early October 19th, watch another tidal wave hit Amazon.
The key is having a well-written novel. These authors are experienced. They can afford to take a chance in asking people, strangers even, to read an unpublished work and provide an honest, no-holds-barred review. I perceive this marketing strategy to work greatly in their favor, especially with a well-written horror novel during Halloween time. And for the reviews I have seen thus far – they are looking at a best-seller.
The long-awaited DRACULAS, A Novel of Terror is available from Amazon for only $2.99 (Kindle). Even if you are not a horror fan, this is a must read. Although it did not keep me awake at night, it was fast-paced and well-written. [See my full review on Amazon and Unruly Guides]. (You will appreciate the slight humor as it slips in during the most intense moments.)
