In this video, I will show you how to add a graphic to your Word document, Save As a Web Page and then “zip” the files (HTM and images) for upload through Amazon’s Digital Text Platform (DTP) : https://dtp.amazon.com/mn/signin
When writing your novel for upload through Amazon’s DTP, you may have heard you need to use Word 2003 or earlier (.doc) and not Word 2007/2010 (.docx). This is only true if you plan to upload the document directly as a Word document through DTP.
NOTICE: DTP states, “At this time, documents in .docx format are not supported on DTP. If your content has been created in .docx format, please resave your document in .doc format and use the file to upload through DTP.”
If this is the case, simply take your word (.docx) file and “Save As” to Word 2003 (.doc). This will create a duplicate document, but in an older Word format.
For now, I want to illustrate how to insert a graphic into your Word Document, Save As a Web Page and then upload the compressed (.zip) file to Amazon’s DTP for publication. I use Microsoft Word 2007 for the Mac, so my illustrations may be slightly different. If you have any issues or problems, please feel free to contact me.
The novel document created in .htm, and the graphics must be together and in a ZIP file in order to upload for publication. Select both the HTM and Files folder, then compress by zipping into one file document.
Try this yourself. Here is the graphic icon I used in the video. Right click the graphic below and “Save AS” to your computer. NOTE: Your graphics and photos should be high resolution and in JPG, GIF or PNG.
