It is always fun meeting new people, and Tiffani Collins is no exception. I first met Tiffani through Unruly Guides, where I had the pleasure of formatting her first published novel, “Dark Wood”. Throughout our correspondence, I was attracted to her energy and positive attitude.
What would normally be an hour chat, simmered down to 20 minutes for podcast, ended up being almost 3 hours. We talked on everything from the weather to speeding tickets. I found Tiffani friendly and outgoing, and her love of the craft is evident.
“Dark Wood”
“Dark Wood” is the first book of the fantasy series Dark Company. The series is set in a world co-created with her good friend and writing partner Leah Dondelinger.
Along the premise of Anne McCaffrey and JRR Tolkin, Collins put her heart into her first novel, creating a depth that brought her characters to life, gleaning from various cultures including Japanese and Swedish mythologies. Though she did not go as far as Tolkin in developing a “new” language, Collins chose words from real cultures, and with a splash of artistic license, created her magical and mythical world.
I thoroughly enjoyed chatting (and laughing) with this young new author and I look forward to following her writing career.
Blogs, Domains and More…
Tiffani and I talked about everything under the sun, including setting up a blog, purchasing a domain name, and using Smashwords. All the information I discuss is located Unruly Guides, to help authors self-promote themselves on the Internet.
About Tiffani Collins
A California Native, Tiffani Collins grew up in the Sierra Mountains surrounded by dogs, cats, rats, alligator lizards, iguanas, parakeets, horny toads, horses, goats, king snakes, ferrets, chickens, fish, ponies, and hamsters – is it any wonder she went on to be a Veterinary Technician or to write about talking animal people? As an adult, she’s found her second home braiding hair while wearing tight bodices and voluminous skirts amongst many other history geeks all speaking Elizabethan English and wishing it was still 1593. She’s also earned her black belt in Tai Kwon Do and an Associate of Science degree, studied the violin, and nursed a voracious addiction to the written word.
You can follow Tiffani Collins on Facebook and also read more about her on Smashwords and Amazon.
