I have used this method several times for authors. While a full size “Rack Card” is not a lot of use to an author, the bookmark is. Unfortunately, Vistaprint does not offer bookmarks. But their is an alternative.
Business Cards are good, but too small for a bookmark and they can easily get lost. You could make your own bookmarks, but that is tedious and takes time. And if you are on a publishing deadline, well, you know how it is trying to find time to do anything.
The Dimensions of the Rack Cards for Vistaprint are the perfect option for printing your bookmarks “two-up”: meaning you have two bookmarks printed for each rack card print – you simply cut the card in half. a Bonus for using Vistaprint rack cards is you get the back printed (in black and white) for free – so more advertising space for your money.
Vistaprint.com
Vistaprint.com is an excellent online source for printing: business cards, “rack cards” and much more. I have used them for several years and speaking as a graphic designer, their results and costs are fantastic.
- For the best results, use the full-bleed dimension: “full bleed” means that the color will run off the edge of the paper and save your file as a .tiff.
- Use the back of the card for the bulk of your information. Keep the front colorful and engaging.
- Con is that the rack cards have to be cut in half to make bookmarks. You can do this by hand (exato knife and metal ruler), use a paper cutter; or your local printer may cut them for you on their super-duper cutting machine for a small fee.
