A publishing company in Argentina, Pequeño Editor, is producing a children’s book that, if planted, will grow into a tree. The acid-free paper used to make the children’s book is infused with seeds from the Jacaranda tree. All of the book, including the paper and glue, is biodegradable. When the book is buried in the dirt and watered, a tree can begin to grow.
The book, titled “My Dad Was in the Jungle”, is geared towards eight to twelve year olds. The book is a part of a project called Tree Book Tree, designed to teach children that there are things we can do to help sustain the environment. It brings books full circle, what was once a tree can now return to the earth and help to create a new tree. The book itself is about the rainforest and promotes love and respect for all living things.
As we move into a future that is increasingly environmentally conscious, a book that gives back to the earth has broad appeal. This book also makes consumers feel that they received two products in one. Not only did they get a fun and informative book to read to their children, but they also received a tree that that they can grow and cherish for years to come.
