Using your unique strengths to focus and build a business
The role of marketing in business may surprise you. Many books and seminars on marketing begin on how to develop the Marketing Plan. This is a huge mistake.
You can’t even consider marketing a product until first you know if it is marketable. Once you find a product to promote, ask yourself: Will it work the way I say it will work? Are there no adverse legal ramifications? Finally, can I sell or offer it for a profit?
Finding your Niche Market
To start off, you need to find a product that people need. Think back in your life. Was there any problem you encountered not resolved completely or was the solution presented incomplete or lacking? Still no ideas?
OK. Then take a moment to seriously contemplate and record the following:
- What kind of things are you interested in? Books, Movies, Hockey…..
- Do your interests border on Passion? Sports, Stamp Collecting, Vintage Cars …..
- Where is your Knowledge base? Is there any subject or topic that you know a lot about?
- Do people ask your advice or opinion? Do they seek you out for answers?
Carefully consider each point. Don’t be afraid to talk with friends or family about how they perceive you. Ask them to be completely honest. You are searching for a product or service that you will enjoy creating and promoting. Pursuing a business you are passionate about increases the potential success of a business dramatically.
