I love talking with SIMON WOOD, and love even more reading his novels. At the time of this podcast, I was in the middle of reading one of his novels, and it was hard to tear myself away (sorry Simon). But I was glad I did. From training his dog for the “Weiner Nationals” to his soon to be released “DID NOT FINISH”, it was fun and enjoyable.
Did Not Finish
Simon has a gifted ability to glean on life’s experiences and put them to paper in a thrilling and engaging way that grabs the reader from the first paragraph. In his soon to be released (Sept. 2011- USA) novel, “Did Not Finish”, Simon relates the story which includes a real-life ‘secret’ that he kept for more than 20 years.
At first he included bits of himself in the book, but as he states “by the end of the book” the character wasn’t a lot like him at all, in fact the character had a “much more interesting background.” He is currently working on a follow-up novel to ‘Did Not Finish’ tentatively called ‘Tin Tops.’
Paying the Piper
‘Paying the Piper’ is a re-launch in digital format. And true to his style, it grabs you from the first paragraph. To his credit, Simon shoots for the unexpected – and succeeds. Simon takes a horrible situation of a child kidnapping and flips it into what is called the ‘Tiger Game’ – where the ransom or blackmail isn’t money but in a commodity that is much harder for the parent to come up with.
The novel is filled with twists and turns — even the ending wasn’t what I had suspected, making ‘Paying the Piper’ a top-notch, 5-star novel.
Work in Progress
I couldn’t list ALL the WIP’s Simon is currently writing, as he writes more than one novel at a time. You will have to listen to the podcast. But several have peaked my interest.
Simon is currently working on a series of novels based on the four elements; the first is on ‘earth’ called “Disturbed.” A family moves into a new home and immediately starts to ‘change.’ The basis for the story was fascinating, mixing two aspects of using fill dirt for home construction, where the fill dirt comes from (a crime scene) and the supernatural aspects that arise from it.
There are several more WIP novels that sound so interesting I can hardly wait to read them – so hurry up and finish them, Simon!
